The Loveandpizza.it Playlist
(Day 27 of 30 – story crumbs from the world of Loveandpizza.it 🍕)
This post was originally published at the beginning of my 31-day Loveandpizza.it journey. The complete English series is now here for you to explore, one story crumb at a time. 🍕
If Loveandpizza.it had a sound, it would sit somewhere between a scooter engine and someone laughing too loudly in a piazza. I’ve spent nearly thirty days giving you crumbs from this story, the places, the food, the people who shaped it, and today I want to hand you something different. Not more words. A feeling (or many), set to music.
Scaffolding, not a Soundtrack
I wrote most of this book with a playlist running on a loop I could probably recite from memory by now, and it moves the way Napoli moves, between the old and the new, the tender and the loud, the properly romantic and the properly ridiculous. Some of it is Neapolitan through and through. Some of it has nothing to do with Italy at all, and everything to do with how a scene needed to feel while I was writing it (and of course, a nudge to Carolina’s Brazilian roots! 😉). That’s the thing about a book playlist: it isn’t really created to be heard by anyone but me while working. But… I’m handing you mine anyway, because I think it tells you almost as much about this story as the blurb does.

A Playlist That Keeps Growing
Here’s the funny thing about this particular playlist. It never really finished. As the years passed and I kept returning to this story, I kept adding to it too, one more song that suddenly sounded exactly like a scene, or a mood, or a piece of Napoli I hadn’t quite captured yet (or I wish I had, because I’m still doing it now, if I’m honest. I catch myself adding a track and thinking, that one belongs in the world of Loveandpizza.it, the way you might imagine a song landing perfectly over the opening credits of a series adaptation that only exists in my head. Maybe one day. (Netflix, if you’re reading this, please get in touch! The script is ready in my Google Drive! 😉)
So this isn’t a relic from 2008, tidied up for the relaunch. It’s a living thing, still being added to, the way I imagine most love stories are, really. You never quite stop adding to the soundtrack of the ones that mattered.
Your turn: if you had to pick one theme song from this list for each of them, Carolina, Lisa, Luca and Fabrizio, which would you choose? Tell me your four picks below 👇
Dani. x
P.S. If you haven’t already, this is the moment to join the relaunch list. You’ll be the first to know the second each edition goes live, and there’s nothing else quite like getting that email before anyone else does.

I like the idea of having a playlist to go along with the book!
I’ll have to do that sometime (besides the one I actually wrote for one of my books).
I love that you put together a soundtrack to go along with Carolina’s story!
One of my favorite radio stations in Switzerland – “Flashback FM” – regularly plays the top 50 Italian hits. Just last time when they announced it, I said I don’t even *know* that many and actually started to list all the beloved songs by Eros Ramazzotti, Laura Pausini, Toto Cotugno, etc.
I wasn’t able to log into Spotify (I’ll have to have Lia get me her sign-in info) but how cool to put a playlist together while writing. Maybe Netflix will find it!
I, too, can’t listen to the play list as I don’t have it on my tablet.
I’m looking forward to playing it when I get home.
I love the idea of a playlist helping give more depth to the characters and their story.
